Research Overview

Chunyi Shen’s work explores the intersections of feminist theory, social justice, and technological innovation, addressing systemic issues related to gender inequality, cultural preservation, and societal transformation. Her research delves into themes of algorithmic bias, gendered power dynamics, and the digital reconstruction of cultural narratives, using interdisciplinary methodologies that combine art, technology, and social inquiry.

Grounded in feminist critiques of power and autonomy, Chunyi’s research interrogates gendered biases embedded in both cultural systems and emerging technologies. She examines how patriarchal structures influence algorithmic outputs, as in her analysis of biased AI systems, and explores speculative futures through the lens of bodily autonomy and gender equality, such as imagining post-human adaptations to challenge entrenched inequalities.

In parallel, Chunyi contributes to societal understanding through digital cultural preservation and data-driven storytelling. Her work in digitising heritage sites and visualising societal vulnerabilities connects historical narratives with contemporary challenges, using technology as a tool for advocacy and sustainability. Her overarching aim is to create pathways for inclusivity and dialogue, bridging the digital and social worlds through feminist and ecological lenses.
